John Tevis Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Lucky DeBellevue.  Entitled A Conversation with the Gods, the show opens Saturday, September 18 and continues through Saturday, October 23, 2010.  An opening reception for the artist will be held Saturday, September 18 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. 

A multi-media exhibition, A Conversation with the Gods features recent sculpture, painting and prints by Lucky DeBellevue.  Many of the exposed works are composed of ready-made objects which DeBellevue has subtly modified in a spirit of collaboration with their unknown makers.  In the main gallery, a large-scale, velvety-red sculpture is anthropomorphized by its association with a series of found and re-touched prints depicting a cat grooming itself.  A discarded, anonymous abstract painting has been given new life by DeBellevue and is proudly installed with the other artworks in the exhibition.  In the office area hang three more of the artist’s chromatically dense, organic abstractions crafted from hundreds of chenille stems, a sturdy, common material delicate in appearance, but rich in texture and available color. 

Born in the state of Louisiana, Lucky DeBellevue lives and works in New York.  The artist has exhibited his work worldwide for more than twenty years.  A Conversation with the Gods marks the artist’s second one-person exhibition in Paris and his first with the gallery.  John Tevis Gallery is located at 47 rue Chapon in the Marais district of Paris.  Gallery hours are 2:00 to 6:00 pm, Wednesday through Saturday.

John Tevis a le plaisir d’annoncer une exposition de l’artiste Lucky DeBellevue, A Conversation with the Gods, qui sera exposée à la galerie du 18 septembre au 23 octobre, 2010.  L’artiste sera présente au vernissage qui aura lieu le 18 septembre de 18h-20h.

L’exposition multi-media, une conversation avec les dieux, présente des sculptures, peintures et estampes de Lucky DeBellevue. La plupart des objets exposés sont composés de ready-made que DeBellevue a modifié avec subtilité dans l’esprit de ce que l’artiste décrit comme une collaboration avec leurs auteurs inconnus. Dans l’espace principal, une sculpture monumentale d’un rouge profond est anthropomorphisée par une série d’estampes retouchées qui représente un chat qui fait sa toilette. Une peinture anonyme qui retrouve une nouvelle vie grâce à l’artiste est fièrement installée avec les autres oeuvres dans l’exposition. Dans l’espace secondaire sont installées trois oeuvres faites de cure-pipes, un matériau ordinaire, délicat en apparence, mais riche en texture et en couleurs disponibles. 

Né dans l’état de Louisana, Lucky DeBellevue vit et travaille à New York.  Les œuvres de l’artiste sont exposées depuis plus de vingt ans de par le monde.  A Conversation with the Gods est sa deuxième exposition personnelle à Paris et sa première avec la galerie.  John Tevis Gallery est située au 47 rue Chapon dans le quartier du Marais à Paris. La galerie est ouverte de 14h à 18h du mercredi au samedi.
